A native of Miami Beach, Darren has been making films since he could hold a camera.
He spent years working his way up the ranks of the camera department, working with acclaimed directors like Michael Mann, Tony Scott, David Fincher, Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg before becoming a cinematographer and director in his own right.
His work has garnered attention from publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, American Cinematographer, and The New Yorker, having been praised as “luminous”, “provocative”,”lyrical” and “masterly.”
Having received his MFA from the American Film Institute, his award-winning work in features and television has been showcased at film festivals around the world and has earned him membership into the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers, and the Directors’ Guild of America.
Darren’s eclectic and prolific career continues to evolve, helming episodic television shows such as OUTER BANKS, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, KINGS, THE GAME and the CSI franchises; independent features like the cult hit ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE; purpose-driven documentaries like the global refugee doc WITNESS (produced with TIME Studios and the UNHCR), stylized and energetic music videos, and commercial spots for brands like Dior, Adidas, Levi’s and L’oreal.
Darren has been nominated for the ASC’s Heritage Award, won two Emmy Awards and two ICG Emerging Cinematographer Awards . His capsule collection of short films MUSE debuted at Cannes and was featured in Vanity Fair magazine. His PSA ‘At Risk Youth’ for the Black Lives Matter movement was featured on CNN, Adweek, and was nominated for an Emmy Award.
